5 Simple Steps for Sustainable Living

In honour of Earth Day on Monday 22nd April, we’re sharing 5 simple ways to reduce your plastic use and carbon footprint.

Plastic waste is causing fatal damage to our environment and is the biggest threat to our oceans and wildlife. Not only is plastic pollution eradicating entire species, it is also seeping into the food we consume. At BECYCLE, we care about healthy living and strive to be more sustainable every day - in our studio and in the products we sell!

Want to start living a more sustainable life too? Here are our 5 steps for a happier, healthier planet…

1. REUSE

A discarded plastic bottle takes more than 500 million years to decompose. Investing in a reusable water bottle is a step in the right direction.

Have a look at the eco-friendly bottles we offer, such as the triple-walled S’well bottles. And in case you forgot to bring your bottle, you can rent a BPA-free one from us and re-fill it with our filtered Leogant water.

2. BUY LOCAL

Buying local can be a simple way to reduce food miles and therefore decrease air pollution greenhouse gas emitted by the transport. Additionally, there are numerous health benefits to eating and buying food locally, since locally grown foods often contain a lot more nutrients and less pesticides. Not to mention that fresh food just tastes better - that’s why we love My Goodness!

3. SHOP CONSCIOUSLY

The fashion industry is one of the most environmentally harmful industries in the world. Unethical manufacturing, depletion of resources such as water and energy, and tons of waste are prevalent. At BECYCLE, we take great care in selecting the brands we sell, that is why we support brands like Alo Yoga and Maati Maati. Active wear label Alo Yoga uses eco-friendly material and is 100% sweatshop free. And the yoga blocks and mats from Maati Maati are made from sustainable and natural cork.

4. Say no to plastic straws

Single use plastic, such as straws, never fully biodegrade and have a hugely negative impact on marine wildlife. Leaving out the plastic straw for your smoothie, or getting a reusable glass or stainless steel straw can already make a positive change.

5. Walk & CYCLE more

Walking and biking more, instead of taking a car reduces gas emissions, air pollution and is generally great for your health. Cycling home might even improve your performance in the ride room!
